The following method for scripture reading and meditation is an adaptation/complilation of things I have read from Martin Luther, Tim Kellar, Mark & Connie Dever and Stu Weber. It can be used in personal worship and in family worship.
A-C-T-S PRAYER METHOD FOR SCRIPTURE READING/MEDITATION
The basic method is this - to take a Scriptural truth and ask four questions of it.
Used in Family Worship the ACTS prayer helps the children think about: 1) who God is; 2) their need to confess their sins to God; 3) remembering to thank God for His many gifts; and 4) to ask for God's help and provision for themselves and others.
For personal use and for use in Family Worship:
After reading and talking about the passage of Scripture you read,
1. ask the children what is something they can Adore God for,
(How does this show me something about God to praise?)
“PRAISE”
2. what is something they can Confess from the passage,
(How does this show me something about myself to confess?)
“SORRY”
3. what is something they can Thank God for; and
(How does this show me something about God to be thankful for?)
“THANK-YOU”
4. what is something they can Ask God for themselves and others.
(How does this show me something I need to ask God for?)
“PLEASE”
Close by praying about the things you came up with.
